“I had the opportunity to experience the process
of building the CH-2 tube mic pre at Signal Audio Workshop
together with Oded Levy (Signal AWS, Chief Engineer
and CEO).
It took us about two weeks to build it (all hand made),
the reason for it to take two weeks was the amazing
finish and accurate circuit work which Oded insisted
on.
If you open the CH-2 you will understand that the one
who built it really likes his job and nothing less then
perfect will be accepted, the way the wiring is convoluted
one into the other is nothing less then art, the soldering
is so accurate that it is really treat to the eye.
But enough on the building process as this gear was
designed to amplify microphones for music recoding.
When first connecting a decent microphone you realize
that this one plays in the big boys league, very deep
in sound, amazing and crystal High frequencies, adds
wonderful caricature to the signal (especially on vocals).
The mid is very tight and rich, transient response is
great for a tube Mic Pre, the build in filters (HPF)
are accurate and work wonders in cleaning the low end.
The front panel design is very nice (also done in house
with the custom CNC machine).”
